The Story of the Gardens
Giardini Pistola is a contemporary Mediterranean garden created within the historic landscape of Masseria Pistola in the Canale di Pirro.

Designed by Urquhart & Hunt, the garden was conceived as a sequence of spaces that respond to the land, the olive groves, and the changing light of the valley.

Rather than a formal route, the garden invites visitors to wander. Paths reveal views gradually, shaded corners offer places to pause, and the planting reflects the colours, textures, and scents of the Puglian landscape.

It is a garden designed not only to be seen, but to be experienced slowly.

The gardens were created in the early 2020s as part of a wider restoration of the Pistola estate.
A Place to Wander Slowly
The gardens at Giardini Pistola are designed to be explored without hurry.
Paths open and close, views reveal themselves gradually, and shaded corners invite you to pause for a while. There is no fixed route — just space to wander, sit, and discover the gardens at your own pace.
Many visitors arrive for a short stroll and find themselves staying much longer than planned.

Golden Hour at Pistola
As afternoon turns toward evening, the gardens shift into a different mood.
Light softens, shadows lengthen, and familiar paths feel new again. Many guests arrive for a short visit and find themselves lingering as the sun disappears behind the hills of the Canale di Pirro.

Golden hour at Pistola is a moment best experienced slowly.

Guided Garden Tours
For those who would like a deeper understanding of the gardens, guided tours are offered on selected days.

Led by garden expert Marialucrezia of Cooperativa Serapia, the tour tells the story of how Giardini Pistola came into being — the inspiration behind the landscape, the restoration of the estate, and the vision of its designers, Urquhart & Hunt, winners at the Chelsea Flower Show 2023.

Over 45 minutes to an hour, the tour moves terrace by terrace through the gardens, exploring the planting, the Mediterranean species, and the way the design responds to the land and the light of the valley.
Tours are relaxed and conversational, designed to enrich the visit without rushing it.
